Mornings.
intention sets the tone.
It’s easy to forget that every morning brings with it an opportunity to live with a renewed sense of self, embrace a positive outlook, and develop a clear vision. Often, we begin our days pre-occupied with all of the tasks we have to complete and the needs we must meet for people around us. If not pre-occupied, we roll over, pick up our phones, and invite the noise of the world into our bedroom far too quickly.
Rarely is there a quiet moment of solitude and a focused energy on developing a holistic plan for our day. Beginning with contemplation and assessing the state of our mind, body, and spirit before we get moving sets the tone.
You can wake up each morning and tend to your needs first: take back your state of mind and your peace. Develop a clear vision, not just a general outline. The days when I feel like I am off kilter and out of sync, are the days I haven’t taken time to set out with a firm sense of what I want to accomplish or what I need to reset my frame of mind. The days easily slip away when we don’t intentionally set forth priorities for them and before we know, weeks or months have gone by and we wonder why we aren’t making the progress we want.
This probably means waking up earlier to create a buffer between you and the day ahead, and that isn’t the easiest change to make sometimes, but doing so and emphasising even a short a morning routine of mindfulness will be well worth it.
Wake up, leave your phone behind. Make a cup of tea or coffee, write or read. Sit outside and watch the day brighten while you consider all of the possibilities. Remember that each day is what we make it. It doesn’t have to look like anything in particular. Set out to create the mood and the life that you choose.
We are the architects of how we spend our time.
